Code of Ethics for Engineering Technologists

The following code of Ethics is promulgated and incumbent upon the Engineering Technology registered with NTC to subscribe to it individually and collectively to up-hold the honour and dignity of the Engineering Technology Profession:-

“And it is He who has made you successors upon the earth and has raised some of you above others in degrees [of rank] that He may try you through what He has given you. Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; but indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.” 6:165
“And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know.” 2:42
“O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.” 49:12
“The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do wrong in ignorance [or carelessness] and then repent soon after. It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.” 4:17
“O you who have believed, fulfill [all] obligations.” 5:1
“O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger to make clear to you [the religion] after a period [of suspension] of messengers, lest you say, "There came not to us any bringer of good tidings or a warner." But there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And Allah is over all things competent.” 5:19
And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.42:40
And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.5:32
And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.5:4
But if you do good and fear Allah - then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.4:128

• The Engineering Technologists shall uphold honor and integrity and advance the dignity of the engineering technology profession by:
  • Using their knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare, health and safety;
  • Being honest and impartial and serving with fidelity the public, their employees; and
  • Striving to increase the competence and prestige of the engineering technology profession and supporting the professional and technical societies of their disciplines.


• The Engineering Technologists, in the fulfillment of their professional duties, shall:
  • Hold paramount of the safety, health and welfare of the public;
  • Perform services only in areas of their competence;
  • Issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner;
  • Act for each employer or client as faithful agents or trusties;
  • Avoid deceptive acts;
  • Conduct themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically and lawfully so as to enhance the honor, reputation and usefulness of the profession;
  • Give the utmost of performance;
  • Participate in none but honest enterprise;
  • Live and work according to the divine and universally acceptable laws and the highest standards of professional conduct; and
  • Place service before profit, the honor and standing of the profession before personal advantage and the public welfare above all other considerations.
